The top of Samoëns – Tête des Saix
With the Samoëns lifts now open for the Summer we took the Grand Massif Express gondula and then the Chariande Express chairlift up to Tête des Saix which at over 2100m is the top of Samoëns. Whilst it was a slighty odd experience sitting on a chair lift without any snow beneath us, the views from the top were absolutely stunning. In the foreground you have the rest of the Grand Massif ski region with views across to the top of Flaine and in the background you have the iconic image of the snow covered peaks of Mont Blanc and Aiguille du Midi.
With lunch in our rucksacks we headed down Marmotte, a red run in the winter, in the direction of the Plateau des Saix at Samoëns 1600. The views back over Samoëns and the Giffre Valley were magnificant, with the top of the Portes du Soleil also visible in the distance.
On reaching Samoëns 1600 we were only too happy to reward ourselves with a “grande pression” at Au pré D’Oscar before taking the Grand Massif Express back down into the village.
